“Autumn. Tango. Capriccio”: An Evening’s Musical Palette

Autumn. Tango. Capriccio ЯАГСО

The Yaroslavl Academic Governor’s Symphony Orchestra presented the concert programme «Autumn. Tango. Capriccio», giving audiences an atmosphere of refined musical autumn, filled with passion, temperament and the richness of orchestral colour.

On the conductor’s podium was Honoured Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan, Principal Conductor Vasily Valitov. The evening’s programme featured works that brought together the sunny charm of Italy, the fiery expressiveness of Spain, the poetry of tango, and brilliant pages of Russian symphonic music.

The concert featured laureates of international competitions: vocalist Irina Kostina, bandoneon player Maxim Fyodorov and pianist Zarina Shimanskaya.

At the heart of the programme was Luis Bacalov’s concerto for soprano, bandoneon, piano and orchestra. A subtle, emotionally rich dialogue between the soloists and the orchestra revealed the many-sided world of tango — lyrical and sensuous, dramatic and irresistibly rhythmic.

The evening gained a special energy from Arturo Márquez’s celebrated Danzón No. 2, filled with a vivid dance pulse and southern temperament. The musical palette was magnificently rounded off by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s «Spanish Capriccio» and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s «Italian Capriccio» — works that captivated the audience with their virtuosity, richness of timbre and dazzling orchestral imagination.
